OUTREACH

Video and Photographic Documentation of Existing Public Perceptions at PORTS

This video documentary chronicles the PORTSfuture outreach process and outcomes with the goal of fostering a greater understanding of past, present, and future conditions at the PORTS site in Piketon, Ohio. The documentary shows interviews with members of the public discussing their views about the outreach engagement process as it relates to the ongoing cleanup of the PORTS site. The future potential of the PORTS site is discussed via different media formats and events.

Development and Publishing of a Ports Annual Site Environmental Report Summary

This video provides an overview of the STEM outreach efforts in a local Pike County high school led by the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. During the 2012/2013 academic year, one class of Waverly High School students worked with the Voinovich School to learn about site cleanup through subject matter expert lectures and by studying aspects of site cleanup efforts. The students then reviewed the Annual Site Environmental Report and summarized it in order to make it more reader-friendly and publicly accessible.

This video provides an overview of an Integrated Energy System Complex planned as the proposed future use of the PORTS site in Piketon, Ohio.

ECONOMIC MODELING/ECONOMIC IMPACT

IMPLAN

This video details the economic examination of proposed future uses of the PORTS site in Piketon, Ohio. Residents of Pike, Scioto, Ross, and Jackson counties were engaged in a variety of venues and asked to identify their future-use preferences for the PORTS site. The Voinovich School then looked at the economic viability of proposed solutions.

Expedited Field Survey & Sampling Techniques for PCB Congeners and Dioxins

This video details the development of expedited field survey and sampling techniques for Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) congeners and dioxins. PCBs are toxic compounds used from 1929-1979 as lubricants, coolants, and electrical insulators in industry. PCBs were banned in 1979, but still exist in the environment.

This video provides an overview of the Habitat Resource Inventory in the PORTS facility in Piketon, Ohio. The HRI characterizes habitats that existed within the study area on the PORTS reservation and adjacent property owners within one mile of Perimeter Road. The study was completed over two summers in 2011 and 2012.
